2024/04/29 - Cold Core Funnels West Of Union City, Oklahoma On Sunday
6:45 PM CDT | April 29, 2024 - Just a day removed from being forced to take shelter from a Tornadic Supercell that began near Eakly and continued toward Okarche on Saturday... I spotted funnels to my southeast. Well behind the main action in Eastern Oklahoma early Sunday evening, a few cells fired near a frontal boundary to the west of Oklahoma City. I watched as the cumulus towers went up and started precipitating. I observed a distinct tail coming from the edge of the storm along the boundary. Over the course of roughly 30 minutes, there were multiple funnels seen. The most interesting was a roping feature. I knew the environment was marginally supportive of severe storms near the boundary. There was enough rising motion and vorticity near the boundary to support what you see below. The storm was eventually placed under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Quarter-size Hail and 60 mph Winds as it gradually pushed eastward.
